How can muzzleloader shooters trust the safety of a breech plug, and what prevents the threaded plug from failing or detaching under the pressure of firing?

The pressure developed from firing the rifle is not sufficient to push the plug out. The strength of the mechanical joint created by the threads far exceeds the force applied by the powder explosion. This has been the standard, proven practice for centuries.
