How do I remove the breech plug on a barrel?

Use a good strong bench vise with soft jaws made of copper, aluminum, or brass to protect the barrel finish, and a large crescent wrench or dedicated breech plug wrench to unthread it. Padding the barrel with brass or similar material during this process prevents marring the finish.
