Restoring an antique, Jim's position
Jim does not think antiques should be refinished. Too many original rifles and pistols have lost a patina that cannot be put back. An antique can be restored, but only by someone very capable, and there are not many who can do the level of work an original deserves. Once high quality professional work is paid for, the cost usually exceeds what the piece gains. A piece missing parts is often better kept as it is.
