Refinishing a stock you are not happy with

A finished stock can be stripped and redone. One builder took the old finish off a Woodsrunner with acetone and Scotch-Brite, sanded to bare wood with 320, applied aqua fortis and blushed it twice, then oiled with Tried and True. Jim reviewed the result and suggested only knocking the shine out of the carving.
