Should I brown, blue, or leave the barrel in the white on my Colonial kit?
For a Colonial kit, historically appropriate finishes are polished bright, charcoal blued, or aged in appearance. Browning is commonly used on colonial-style rifles today but is technically a slightly later finish that came in the last decade of the 18th century. Bluing carries warping risk from uneven heat unless care is taken.
