Why is the Hawken kit a half stock instead of a full stock?
A half stock, where the wood only extends about halfway down the barrel, was a stylistic characteristic that became common in the early 19th century and is also somewhat easier to manufacture since the barrel channel does not need to be cut the full length of the stock.
