Why does the Hawken kit's barrel length stay in the lower 30 inch range instead of longer?
Keeping the barrel around 31 to 32 inches helps manage the overall weight of the rifle, since going much longer makes weight a real issue on a Hawken pattern gun. Some original Hawken rifles were also made with shorter barrels, so this length is historically plausible.
