Why did Kibler's design their own rifling cutter instead of buying one?
Kibler's originally rifled barrels using a cutter from another company, but it had problems with the tip breaking because the design was better suited to shorter modern firearm barrels and did not have enough pocket space for chip clearance. Since their muzzleloader barrels are 44 inches long and produce a lot of chips per pass, they redesigned the cutter to be more robust, with the wedge attached directly to the adjusting screw so it locks in place and does not follow the cutter when it is pushed back through the barrel.
