Why is the wood inside a Kibler buttplate fit closely instead of relying on the screw for alignment?
Relying on a wood screw to locate the buttplate side to side is not a good approach. Fitting the wood closely to the inside of the buttplate, the way many original rifles were made, removes dead space so the screw grabs wood faster and does not need to be as long.
