Why does the trigger guard sometimes need extra material trimmed at the back before it fits the inlet?
Trigger guards are left slightly long at the rear on purpose because investment casting can vary a bit in size from part to part. Leaving extra wood in the inlet lets the fit be trimmed to match whichever guard is used rather than risking a gap if a shorter casting were paired with an already-tight inlet.
