Why does the box lid on a rifle sometimes not match the color of the rest of the stock?
When making kits, we try to select the box lid wood from the same piece as the rest of the stock, but that is not always possible, so we use similar wood when we cannot. If the color still does not match well enough for the builder's taste, it can be adjusted afterward using aniline dyes such as Trans-Tint or Dangler's.
