Why does Kibler's cast a preform for the buttplate instead of bending brass bar stock?
Bending brass bar stock 90 degrees thins out the material in the heel, so thicker stock is needed and that becomes harder to bend. Casting a preform avoids that problem, and scrap brass from machining other parts like nose caps can be melted down for it.
