Kibler's Longrifles Knowledge Base

What is the bolster area of a flintlock and why does its fit matter?

The bolster is the area at the front edge of the lock plate. It needs to make good, flush contact against the side of the barrel; if it does not, extra wood in the bolster inlet area should be removed until the lock seats flush against the barrel.
