Is a tow plate necessary on the Southern Mountain Rifle?
A tow plate on the Southern Mountain Rifle is optional. Whether it actually improves durability of the stock's toe is debatable, since some original mountain rifles had tow plates and others did not, so it is mostly a stylistic choice.
