Why were English fowling pieces so common in colonial America?
English fowling pieces were made quickly and cheaply using a production system with specialization, even though machines were limited at the time. This made them cheaper than guns made in the colonies, so they were shipped over and sold at general stores, becoming one of the most common and versatile guns on the frontier. They could shoot either shot or a round ball.
