How does Kibler's design a rifle based on a rare original like the Brown Bess?
In the past, some complex parts were made as a physical model and then 3D scanned and converted to a solid model, though scanning loses quality, especially on inside and outside corners. Kibler's has moved to designing directly in CAD, which is more time consuming for organic shapes like stocks but gives a better end product. For a piece like a rare original, a scan may still be used as a reference to set up the surface shapes, but the final design work is done with CAD tools rather than using the scan data directly.
