Why would you use tannic acid along with iron nitrate on curly maple?
Tannic acid can enhance the figure by increasing the contrast between the different grain orientations in curly maple, making the stripes appear bolder and darker. The tradeoff is that it tends to eliminate some of the warm tones that iron nitrate alone produces, so warmth has to be added back afterward.
