Why shouldn't you use hardware store linseed oil as a stock finish?

Kibler's recommends against using ordinary hardware store linseed oil for stock finishing. It is a poor product for gun stock finishing. Kibler's uses Tried & True oil varnish, a traditional formulation based on linseed oil with rosin added, which gives better results.
