Why shouldn't I polish the metal parts before assembling the rifle?
Fitting a gun together well requires filing and adjusting metal and wood together, such as leveling the butt plate and toe plate to the stock. Polishing parts beforehand removes material you may still need for fitting and is a recipe for problems.
