Why should the holes for the lock bolts be drilled through the stock rather than off of it?
Drilling and tapping the lock bolt holes through the existing holes already in the stock keeps everything properly aligned. Trying to drill and tap the lock plate separately, outside the stock, tends to cause alignment problems.
