Why is relief carving difficult to program for CNC machining?
The tool used to surface a stock has too large a radius to produce refined carving on its own, so finer tools are needed to come back in and sharpen up edges and make the carving crisp. Programming the tool paths for this relief carving is more of a challenge than the rest of the stock and takes significant time to refine.
