Why does the ramrod supplied with a kit sometimes not fit the entry pipe hole?

The rods used do vary slightly in size, so sometimes they need to be sanded or scraped down a bit to fit properly. The area where the rod enters the stock is generally tapered, and the ramrod tip is slightly smaller than the rod diameter, so it is expected that the builder will taper the wood to match the metal tip using a sanding block, file, or scraper.
