Why does the metal on my rifle sometimes sit proud of the wood in winter after fitting perfectly in summer?
This happens because wood changes dimensions as the surrounding ambient moisture changes with the seasons. It is a normal characteristic of wood and can only be avoided by keeping the rifle in a consistent humidity environment.
