Why do the tabs on the SMR ramrod pipes sometimes need to be filed down?

The tabs on the ramrod pipes are made a little longer than needed, so they can interfere with the barrel once the pipe is seated. Filing or sanding the tab down a bit resolves the interference so the pipe seats fully in its inlet.
