Where should I check first if the lock bolster on my mountain rifle won't seat against the barrel?

Check the area right below the barrel first, since there is sometimes a little extra wood there that keeps the bottom edge of the bolster from coming down far enough. Removing that small bit of wood often lets the bolster seat properly.
