What tools are used to remove the background when relief carving a longrifle stock?
A flat chisel, often about a half inch wide, is used for larger open areas, while a skew chisel, which is shaped like a knife with a double bevel, works well for tighter spots near a design's features. An optivisor (magnifier) also helps with careful, close-up carving work.
