What tool is used to remove the mainspring from a flintlock?
A mainspring vise is used to remove the mainspring. The hook of the vise goes over the top of the mainspring, and the lower leg of the clamp is slid as far out toward the edge as possible to mimic the force on the spring when in use and spread the load evenly. Vise grips or similar tools are not recommended for this.
