What tool do you use to scrape a rifle stock, and how is it sharpened?
A scraper is a thin piece of spring steel, hardened to roughly the mid-40s on the Rockwell C scale, and a thin scraper around fifteen to twenty thousandths of an inch works well for gunstock work. To sharpen it, true up the edge square to the face with a file or stone, then draw a hardened steel rod across the edge at a slight angle to raise a small burr that does the actual cutting.
