What should I keep in mind about the wood level around the trigger guard when finishing the stock?

If the trigger guard tends to work its way out of the inlet, you can bend the guard down slightly at the front so it holds itself down with spring tension. Any final leveling of the wood around the guard inlet should wait until the guard is removed from the stock, since it can sit a little below grade until then.
