What sandpaper grits should I use to sand a rifle stock?

For sanding a rifle stock, work through 150, 220, and then 320 grit sandpaper, in that order, going over the entire stock at each grit before moving to the next. Subsequent grits take a lot less time than the first pass at 150 grit, since most of the material removal happens early.
