What sandpaper grits are recommended for finishing a rifle stock?

For sanding wood, a good approach is to start around 150 grit and work up to about 320 grit, using 150, 220, and 320 in sequence. For polishing metal parts, wet dry sandpaper can start around 100 to 120 grit and work up to about 400 grit, and it helps to file metal parts with a fine file first before sanding.
