What methods can I use to sand a ramrod down so it slides through the pipes?
One method is to hold a block of wood wrapped in sandpaper, starting around 150 grit, and work the rod down until it slides freely, checking fit frequently since the whole rod is usually only slightly oversized. A card scraper with a hooked edge can also be used and leaves a more traditional, slightly textured look instead of a straight sanded finish.
