What kind of file should I use to draw file a barrel?
Use a mill file, which has a flat, rectangular cross section with teeth cut in only one direction rather than a crossed pattern, allowing a finer, smoother finish. An 8 inch mill file works well, and while premium brands like Bahco are nice, an ordinary big-box-store file will get the job done.
