What kind of bluing is historically correct for a colonial period rifle?
The only type of bluing that seems likely to have been used in the colonial period is charcoal bluing, which is a difficult, not really a home shop process. If historical correctness is not a concern, rust bluing is a nice option that came into use later, in the 19th century, and produces a color similar to charcoal blue with a slightly different look.
