What is transfer color used for when fitting a barrel or parts into a stock?
Transfer color, such as Prussian blue, is a thin coating applied to a metal part before inserting it into the wood to reveal exactly where the part is rubbing or interfering with the inlet. Only a very light coat should be used, since too much gives false readings; alternatives include soot from a candle or commercial inletting black.
