Kibler's Longrifles Knowledge Base

What is draw filing and why is it used on a rifle barrel instead of just sanding?

Draw filing is a traditional technique where you hold a file with both hands and slide it lengthwise along the barrel, letting it flex to follow the barrel's shape. It works well because it irons out any minor high or low spots and smooths inconsistencies, which is especially noticeable on a polished barrel where imperfections in the surface finish show up clearly.
