Should the inlets on a rifle stock be sealed with finish?
Traditionally, inlets were not sealed or finished in any way. No gun stock finish is fully waterproof, so moisture will get into the stock either way, and well-fitted parts largely block moisture from entering the inlet. Builders can choose to put a coat of sealer in the inlets if they want, but original guns were not finished there and still hold up well.
