Should I sand or scrape a rifle stock?

Both approaches produce a fine rifle, so it comes down to preference. Sanding is easier and better for beginners, giving a clean finish, while scraping can leave a bit more texture and surface interest but is somewhat harder to get an even finish with. The claim that a rifle must be scraped to be considered fine is not accurate.
