How should I stain cherry wood and what should I use to finish it?

Cherry is often left unstained, using just a finishing oil such as Kibler's sealer and finish product. Cherry may start out lighter than expected, but it darkens naturally with sunlight exposure over time and develops a nice color, so staining is optional; if you do want to adjust the color, aniline dyes are an easy way to do it.
