How is the ramrod tip pinned onto the ramrod?

The ramrod tip is pinned in place using a small finish nail. A hole is drilled through the tenon and the tip, the hole is lightly chamfered, and the nail is tapped in, trimmed close, and then peened with a small hammer so it deforms into the countersink and locks in place.
