How is the background cleaned up around relief carving?
A chisel is used as a scraper to flatten and smooth the background along the carving, blending tool pads together and removing machine marks. This is followed by some filing to blend areas machined from different sides, and a fine wire brush can be used to soften lines that were cut a bit too deep.
