How does a flintlock ignite the powder charge?
The flint scrapes the frizzen and creates sparks as the cock falls. Those sparks ignite the priming powder sitting in the flash pan, and the resulting flame travels through the touch hole in the side of the barrel to ignite the main powder charge that was poured down the bore.
