How do you use bone black to darken a stock?
Bone black is applied and you will not get all the color you want in one coat, so it is built up over multiple applications, sealing it in with a coat of finish between applications. It is best to get most of the color built up fairly early, since staining and applying several coats of finish first, then trying to use bone black at the end, does not work well because the sealed, smooth wood surface has little for the bone black to grab.
