How do you polish and finish metal lock and mount parts?

The finishing approach depends on the look desired. For a barrel, a draw file finish alone can look nice, or it can be taken further with abrasive paper down to around 320 to 400 grit. Cast parts like mounts usually need filing to remove rough spots first, followed by abrasive paper wrapped around wood or files, and then abrasive stones for a final polish.
