Kibler's Longrifles Knowledge Base

How do you identify a curly maple log before it's cut?

One key way to identify a curly tree is to look at the surface of the log directly beneath the bark, where ripples will be visible if the tree has curl. In springtime, bark slips off logs more easily, which is when a lot of curly logs get identified because the wavy surface becomes much more evident.
