How do you fit the front and rear sights into their dovetails?
Sight castings vary slightly in size, so the dovetail slots in the barrel are machined a bit undersized to work with all the sights, meaning a builder often needs to open the fit slightly. This can be done with a three-cornered file with teeth ground off one side, run back and forth in the dovetail, or by carefully filing down the angled surface of the sight itself with a flat file.
