How do you engrave metal parts on a longrifle?
Traditional engraving is done with a chisel called a graver, either tapped through the metal with a hammer or pushed by hand. This removes a small sliver of metal, which creates a shadow or can be filled or colored for contrast against the surrounding material. Engraving takes some practice, but the patterns used on longrifles are usually not very complex, and beginners can practice on scrap metal before working on a real piece.
