How do you cut long straight lines cleanly when carving a toe molding?

Long straight lines can be difficult to cut cleanly. One approach is to use a wide chisel and work along the line piece by piece. Another less conventional method is to use a long, pointed knife, pushing down and rolling it forward so it tracks and follows the line, which also works for slow sweeping curves.
