How are the pins for the Colonial kit's nose cap typically installed?
Two brass pins are driven in on the 45 degree flats of the nose cap rather than straight through the bottom, which is the traditional method and matches how many original rifles were pinned, though pinning straight through the bottom in the ramrod groove is also sometimes seen. A 16th inch hole is drilled through each flat, both sides are countersunk, and the pins are peened over the barrel, used as an anvil, to form rivets.
