Can dye stains be used to adjust the color after iron nitrate?
Yes. Aniline dye stains, whether alcohol, water, or oil soluble, can be applied over or mixed with the finish on top of aqua fortis to shift the color. The downside is that aniline dyes are not as colorfast or durable as iron nitrate and can fade or wash out over time, and their color can look different from the aqua fortis base if not used carefully.
